Thinking Big: Ideas that could change the world
3 x 22 minute episodes
Want to change the world? Every so often someone comes up with an idea that does just that.
Edison and his light bulb are obvious examples but there are hundreds of other ideas that go beyond technical innovation - ideas about how we organise and run our society or the way we live our lives - that can have a dramatic impact on millions of people.
The abolition of slavery, votes for women, universal health care are all examples.
So what are the big ideas of the 21st Century? This series looks at some of the most ambitious schemes currently being dreamt up.
The architect of each is interviewed and sets out their vision. We then explore the idea, hearing from experts in the field on the potential pitfalls and prospects of success.
Is this a stroke of inspired genius or a hopeless pipedream?
Can America go oil-free by 2019? Amory Lovins believes it could.
Feminising Boardrooms. Spain and Norway set a 40% target by law for women. Ansgar Gabrielsen or Ruth Mateos de Cabo
